Full Body Skin Check
During your full body skin check you will meet one of our lovely Melanographers who are registered nurses that have completed a specialist course through the Australian College of Dermatologists. They are experienced in identifying different types of skin cancers. The Melanographer will inspect your skin over your entire body including under your hair in your scalp. It is recommended that you do not wear nail polish or have fake nails on for the appointment. A Dermatoscope is an instrument that is used to look closely at any lesion that they may be interested in. They will take high resolution photographs of any lesion of interest and guide you as to next steps depending on the diagnosis.
A report, that includes the detailed photographs, is sent to your GP and a copy is emailed to you usually within a couple of days. A follow up skin check is arranged in 12 months. If the Melanographer identifies a lesion that has atypical features they may ask you ( and your GP) to monitor the lesion for any changes. In some cases they may ask you to return to Dermascan, in 3-6 months for them to take another look. This review appointment is usually free of charge.
